CAF raises WAFCON 2024 prize money to $1 million
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a significant increase in prize money for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), raising the winner’s reward to $1 million. This move comes as part of a broader 45% increase in the overall prize pool for the tournament.
According to the updated prize structure, the runners-up will receive $500,000, while the third and fourth-place teams will earn $350,000 and $300,000 respectively. Quarter-finalists will be awarded $200,000 each, and teams finishing third and fourth in their groups will take home $150,000 and $125,000 respectively.
The 2024 edition of the tournament will be hosted by Morocco from Saturday, July 5 to Saturday, July 26. Defending champions, South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, will be looking to retain their title in what promises to be a highly competitive event.
