Liverpool to Honour Diogo Jota’s Contract, Will Pay £140,000 Weekly to His Family Until June 2027 Following Tragic Death at 28

Premier League champions Liverpool will honour the full remainder of Diogo Jota’s contract by paying his family following the Portuguese striker’s tragic death at the age of 28.

Jota and his brother, Andre, were killed in a car accident in Spain in the early hours of Thursday, July 3.

The former Wolves forward had signed a five-year contract extension with Liverpool in 2022, earning a reported £140,000 per week—equating to approximately £7.2 million per year.

With two years left on his deal, Liverpool will pay out the outstanding sum of around £14.5 million to Jota’s family, reflecting the club’s commitment to supporting his loved ones during this heartbreaking time.

Jota, a father of three, passed away just two weeks after marrying his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso.

He joined Liverpool in 2020 and made 182 appearances for the club, scoring 65 goals and providing 26 assists. During his time at Anfield, he helped the Reds secure the Premier League title last season, along with FA Cup and League Cup victories.
