It was a day of pride, symbolism, and heartfelt celebration as Jafad College of Nursing Science, Oru-Ijebu, hosted its much-anticipated Matriculation, Capping, and Stripping Ceremony, honoring the academic journey and professional growth of its students.
The ceremony, held on Friday, July 11, 2025, brought together a diverse and distinguished audience including students, lecturers, parents, healthcare professionals, and educational stakeholders, all united by a shared purpose: to celebrate the next generation of nurses.
The event commenced with a solemn academic procession led by the 61 matriculating students of the ND 2024/2025 set, guided by their class coordinator, and followed by the college’s principal officers and the invited Guest Speaker.
The atmosphere on campus was vibrant and celebratory, as the students marked key transitions in their training. Among the dignitaries in attendance were Mr. Abdulhameed, JAMB Zonal Coordinator; Missionary Ibrahim Quadri, representing the College’s Chairman, Board of Directors; and Dr. (Mrs.) Rafiat Ajoke Anokwuru, who served as Guest Speaker.
The students were formally introduced by the Student Affairs Officer, Mrs. Fijabi Adetutu. The college’s Registrar, Mr. Mojeed Adewale Lawal, administered the Oath of Allegiance during the matriculation ceremony. In her opening address, Acting Provost Ms. Olufunmilola Akintayo urged the students to remain focused, disciplined, and consistent in their studies, stating:
“These values will serve as your compass in this noble path.”
Following the matriculation, the capping and stripping ceremony marked a poignant moment in the students’ transformation. Clinical nurses from the State Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, participated in capping the students, a gesture symbolic of their commitment to compassion, care, and service. The students, visibly emotional, embraced this rite of passage with pride and gratitude.
“This cap is not just fabric—it’s a crown of service, compassion, and duty,” the Acting Provost noted.
Delivering the keynote speech titled “The Journey from Admission to Graduation: Strategy for a Successful Outcome,” Dr. (Mrs.) Rafiat Ajoke Anokwuru offered practical and motivational insights, encouraging students to stay anchored in purpose and passion.
“Your success begins from the first day you show up. Stay focused, avoid distractions, and never lose sight of why you chose this path,” she advised.
One of the highlights of the event was the recognition of outstanding academic performance. High-achieving students received awards in various categories, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to rewarding merit and inspiring excellence.
Among the awardees was Student Nurse Fasasi Mariam, who was recognized as the Overall Best Student. Her words, “Nursing to me is LIFE!” resonated deeply during her interview, capturing the passion that drives many into the profession.
An interactive red carpet session hosted by Nightingale Media provided students a platform to share their personal journeys. Many expressed heartfelt gratitude to their families and to God, emphasizing that nursing was not imposed upon them but chosen out of a deep desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
Their testimonies, full of sincerity and hope, served as a powerful reminder of the compassion and resilience that define the nursing profession.
Beyond the festivities, the event stood as a reflection of the college’s enduring mission to equip and empower the future of Nigeria’s healthcare system. From their first oath to their first clinical badge, the students of Jafad College of Nursing Science are being molded into professionals with skill, integrity, and empathy.
As the curtain fell on the celebration, one message stood clear: Nursing is not just a profession. It is a calling—and Jafad is answering that call with excellence.
