Police Officer’s Death Sparks Concern After Recent Cosmetic Surgery
Young Police Officer Dies Days After Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery in Miami
A 26-year-old New Orleans police officer, Wildelis Rosa, tragically died just days after undergoing a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) procedure in Miami, during which she reportedly suffered from "extreme pain."
Rosa, who also served as a U.S. Army Reservist recently returned from deployment in Kuwait, had told her family she was traveling to Miami in March to celebrate her birthday. Her older sister, Anamin Vazquez, revealed to NBC6 that the family was unaware Rosa was planning to undergo cosmetic surgery.
On March 19, Rosa completed her pre-operative blood work at Prestige Plastic Surgery Clinic in South Florida. The following day, surgeons removed fat from 12 areas of her body and injected it into her buttocks. The procedure cost her $7,495, according to an invoice.
Vazquez said the family quickly sensed something was wrong. “I texted her saying, ‘I hope you're enjoying your birthday,’ but I got no reply,” she recounted.
On the morning of March 23, Rosa was found unresponsive in the bathroom of her rental accommodation. A friend staying with her performed CPR, but Rosa could not be revived.
An autopsy from the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner concluded her cause of death was a pulmonary embolism—blood clots linked to the cosmetic surgery.
Rosa’s friend told investigators she had attended a follow-up appointment the day after her operation and had complained of extreme pain. That night, she experienced severe breathing difficulties and drastically low blood pressure. Her friend also observed that Rosa appeared pale, had dilated pupils, purple lips, and numbness in her legs and feet. Rosa also reportedly texted another friend that same night, expressing concern about her blood pressure and poor circulation.
Vazquez believes these symptoms were warning signs that were not taken seriously. “It was an unnecessary death,” she said. “She had so many dreams. She wanted to work with the FBI. She was the youngest of five. We lost her too soon.”
Rosa’s passing is part of a troubling trend. According to NBC6, the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office has reported 25 deaths related to cosmetic surgery complications over the past three and a half years, involving various clinics and surgeons in the area.
