62-year-old woman arrested with 178 live cartridges in Delta

Delta State Police operatives have arrested a 62-year-old woman found in possession of a sack containing 178 live cartridges, reportedly packed for delivery.

According to SP Bright Edafe, the police spokesperson, the woman, identified as Charter Timide, admitted buying the ammunition from Onitsha Main Market.

“On 30th October 2025, at approximately 12:30 pm, officers from the Bomadi Division, under the leadership of DPO CSP Adie Peter Bissong, conducting a joint stop-and-search operation with the Bomadi Vigilante, intercepted a motorcycle along the Bomadi–Tuomo Road,” the statement said.

“The rider, who appeared nervous, was transporting a 62-year-old woman, later identified as Charter Timide, to Tuomo Community. A thorough search revealed a hidden sack containing 178 live cartridges neatly packed for delivery.”

When questioned, Timide confessed to purchasing the cartridges from Onitsha Main Market, a well-known trading hub. Her statement prompted further investigations to trace the intended destination and purpose of the ammunition.

“The suspect and the recovered items have been handed over to the State Headquarters for discreet investigation to determine any possible connections to armed groups or illicit suppliers,” SP Edafe added.
