BREAKING : PDP crisis deepens as factions emerge, Anyanwu camp suspends Damagum, others

A fresh leadership tussle has rocked the Peoples Democratic Party, as a faction loyal to the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, announced the suspension of the party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, along with five other members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

At a press briefing in Abuja on Saturday, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the PDP National Secretary who spoke for the factional NWC, declared Mohammed Abdulrahman, the National Vice Chairman (North Central), as the new Acting National Chairman.

According to Anyanwu, the faction resolved to suspend Damagum over “incompetence, financial misconduct, and disregard for court orders.” He stated that Damagum has been suspended for one month and will appear before the Disciplinary Committee.

He further announced the suspension of the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, for issuing unauthorized statements, as well as Deputy National Vice Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja.

Others suspended include:

National Financial Secretary, Daniel Woyenguikoro, over alleged financial infractions

National Youth Leader, Sulaiman Kadade

Deputy National Secretary, Setonji Koshoedo

All six are to face the Disciplinary Committee and justify why they should not be expelled.

Earlier, the Damagum-led NWC had also announced the suspension of Senator Samuel Anyanwu, National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), and two others—highlighting the deepening rift within the party.
