Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has donated 10 brand-new Toyota Hilux patrol vehicles to the Nigeria Police Force, Irrua Area Command, to boost security operations across Edo Central and the state at large.
In a statement on Saturday, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, said the vehicles were handed over to the Area Commander on Friday as part of the state government’s continued support for security agencies in combating crime and protecting residents.
Speaking during the commissioning, Governor Okpebholo said the gesture was driven by a commitment to safeguarding lives.
He noted, “This is not just about buying vehicles for the police. It is about addressing the security concerns of our people. It is painful that someone could leave home and may not return due to criminal elements. We must continue to confront them and secure our land.”
The governor also thanked the Inspector-General of Police for deploying the MOPOL 82 Squadron to Uromi, describing the move as highly significant for the region. He stressed that the new patrol vehicles would enable officers to respond swiftly to emergencies across different locations.
Okpebholo further expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the federal government’s continued financial and developmental support, which he said has greatly contributed to the progress recorded by his administration.
Other dignitaries at the event—including the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, State APC Chairman Emperor Jarret Tenebe, and retired General Cecil Esekhaigbe—commended the governor’s efforts in strengthening security and improving other key sectors.
The ceremony concluded with a formal handover of the vehicle keys to the police authorities, marking another step in Edo State’s commitment to enhancing security infrastructure.
