PDP faction appoints Mao Ohuabunwa as BoT Chairman

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has named Mao Ohuabunwa as Chairman of its Board of Trustees (BoT). Isah Dansidi was also appointed as the Board’s Secretary.

Their appointments come as replacements for Adolphus Wabara and Ahmed Makarfi.

The new BoT was inaugurated on Friday in Abuja by the faction’s Acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed.

According to a communiqué released after the ceremony, Wabara and Makarfi were removed because their public positions in the ongoing internal crisis made it impossible for them to maintain the neutrality, integrity, and moral authority required for their roles.

The communiqué, signed by Ohuabunwa and Dansidi, stated:
“The Board observed that former BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara and Secretary Senator Ahmed Makarfi, having openly taken sides in the current intra-party dispute, can no longer continue in their previous roles. To preserve the Board’s neutrality and credibility, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa from the South and Hon. Isah Dansidi from the North have been unanimously elected as Chairman and Secretary of the newly constituted BoT.”

The Board thanked the outgoing officials for their service and wished them success in their future endeavors.

It also praised party stakeholders for their resilience and continued loyalty amid recent challenges, urging members to remain committed to unity, maturity, and mutual respect.

The BoT reaffirmed that true reconciliation and cooperation are essential for lasting peace and progress within the PDP, and restated its commitment to strengthening internal democracy through transparency, inclusiveness, and institutional integrity.

“The Board maintains that adherence to the Nigerian Constitution, the Electoral Act, INEC guidelines, and the Party Constitution—combined with mutual respect—remains the foundation on which the PDP can uphold Nigeria’s democratic values,” the communiqué concluded.
