Rapper A$AP Rocky is being sued by a neighbour in his luxury New York apartment building, who alleges that a leak from the rapper’s $11 million condo caused “catastrophic” damage.
Rocky, whose legal name is Rakim Mayers, owns a 4,800-square-foot, three-bedroom full-floor loft in a historic building constructed in 1895 and later renovated in the 1990s.
According to court filings, the owner of the $6.5 million unit directly beneath Rocky’s residence claims a December 2024 leak severely flooded their apartment, leaving it “completely uninhabitable.”
The lawsuit, filed October 30 in Manhattan Supreme Court and cited by The Independent, blames the extensive water damage on “the negligence of the putative owner… Rakim Athelaston Mayers (a/k/a A$AP Rocky)” as well as a contractor, ADE Pro Painting.
The neighbour alleges more than $700,000 worth of damage to the apartment’s fixtures, furnishings, appliances, furniture, clothing, and personal belongings. They also claim to have spent $200,000 on temporary housing and other expenses.
The flooding reportedly occurred after several hot water pipes burst in and around Rocky’s apartment. Court documents say workers from ADE Pro Painting opened windows during maintenance to ventilate the space but allegedly left them open during freezing weather. Combined with issues in the heating system, this allegedly caused the pipes to burst.
The plaintiffs are seeking at least $900,000 from A$AP Rocky’s representative, the condo board, and ADE Pro Painting, plus a minimum of $200,000 from the condo board alone.
ADE Pro Painting’s owner told The Independent via email that he had signed an NDA with the rapper, limiting what he could disclose, and added that the company had also suffered losses and “did not get pay [sic] for certain services provided.”
