Shi’ite Sect Members Protest in Kano Over Trump’s Invasion Threat

Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), widely known as Shi’ites, staged a protest in Kano on Friday, November 8, in response to recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump threatening to invade Nigeria to combat terrorism.

The protesters marched through major streets in Kano, holding placards and banners rejecting Trump’s assertion that Christians in Nigeria were facing genocide. Some participants dragged the American flag along the road, while others displayed effigies of the U.S. president in symbolic defiance.

Trump had recently labeled Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern,” alleging widespread persecution of Christians by terrorist groups. He warned that if the Nigerian government failed to address the situation, he would consider deploying U.S. troops. He also reportedly instructed the U.S. Department of War to draft a potential military intervention plan.

In response, IMN dismissed Trump’s remarks as unfounded and provocative. The group condemned the statements as “inflammatory and dangerous,” accusing Western powers of spreading misinformation to create religious tensions in Nigeria.

The movement insisted that it stands for unity and peaceful coexistence, arguing that Nigeria’s problems stem from corruption and political misconduct rather than religious conflict.
