Cashel Barnett, a former contestant on “Love Island” and “The Challenge: USA,” is facing additional serious charges in Utah, where he has been held without bail since last month. Prosecutors on Tuesday filed three new felony charges against him; aggravated s3xual assault, aggravated assault, and domestic violence in the presence of a child, stemming from an incident last November involving his ex-girlfriend.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Barnett is accused of slapping and choking the woman while s3xually assaulting her, allegedly in front of their one-year-old child. The victim reportedly told investigators that the assault occurred after she asked Barnett to find a job to help support their child. She claimed that Barnett had withheld all physical contact for a month prior to the incident and that during the encounter, she briefly lost consciousness.
The victim further alleged that the assault began when Barnett put his hands down her pants. When she kissed him back, he reportedly became enraged and told her she was being punished and not allowed to do that, allegedly saying, “Is this what you f---ing want?” before the attack escalated.
These latest allegations come in addition to earlier charges relating to a separate alleged assault involving the same victim. That incident also reportedly occurred in front of their child.
Barnett is expected to be arraigned on the new charges this week.
In a statement to TMZ, Barnett’s attorney said: “Mr. Barnett maintains his innocence and denies any wrongdoing. My client and his family are enduring an incredibly difficult time, and we hope that his privacy will be respected as we work diligently to defend his name and reputation.”
Barnett gained national attention on the first season of “Love Island USA” in 2019 and later appeared on “The Challenge: USA” in 2022.
