"2027: Tinubu Gains Support from South-East Professionals as Opposition Coalition Shrugged Off"
A coalition of young professionals from the South-East has launched a political pressure group aimed at mobilizing support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Operating under the banner of the South East Progressive Ambassadors (SEPA 2027), the group officially unveiled its movement during a recent event in Abuja, where it called on the Igbo nation to dismiss ongoing talks of opposition coalitions and instead join forces with other regions in backing Tinubu for another term.
In a statement read at the event—jointly signed by the group’s Convener, John Ikeotuonye; Secretary, Justin Nwankwo; and Leader of the Women’s Wing, Vivian Nnajiofor—SEPA vowed to mobilize extensively across the region, describing Tinubu’s re-election as a strategic step that would serve the South-East’s long-term interests.
“We must ignore the wave of coalitions currently gaining attention and focus on the broader national political landscape. The best minds in the North are aligning with the APC and President Tinubu, while outdated political actors are trying to lure the East into unfamiliar and unproductive alliances,” the statement read.
SEPA emphasized the need for unity and strategic political participation from the South-East, particularly among young progressives.
“It’s time for the South-East to rise above sentimental politics and take a firm stand. We must organize, unify, and stop chasing political relevance outside the key decision-making table.”
The group noted that the current fragmentation of the South-East—reflected in the presence of four different political parties governing the region's five states—underscores the urgency for political consolidation.
“We must unite now or risk perpetual division. The progressive movement is already looking ahead to 2025. The South-East must not be left behind.”
SEPA insisted that their mission goes beyond mere endorsements, highlighting a broader agenda focused on:
-
Strategic political alignment
-
Legacy continuity
-
Youth participation
-
National integration
-
Grassroots mobilization through data-driven advocacy
“This is a renewed hope movement. We call on public and private stakeholders in the South-East to partner with us in ensuring full inclusion and engagement at all levels.”
The group also warned that failure to act now could result in further marginalization—this time self-inflicted.
SEPA highlighted key initiatives and achievements under Tinubu’s administration in the South-East, including:
-
The establishment of the South East Development Commission
-
Construction of major road infrastructure
-
Support for regional governors
-
Tax reform bills
-
The introduction of the education loan scheme
The event was attended by prominent figures from other pro-Tinubu support groups, including Dr. Sulaimon Lateef Adegboyega, Ogun State Coordinator of the City Boy Movement. He commended Tinubu as a leader of substance, structure, and vision, urging the South-East to rally behind him.
“President Tinubu is not a man of empty promises. He delivers with precision and foresight. The South-East stands to gain significantly by aligning with his leadership,” Dr. Adegboyega said.
