El-Rufai would make a better FCT Minister than Wike – Senator Kingibe
Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has stated that former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, delivered better performance as FCT Minister than the current minister, Nyesom Wike.
Despite acknowledging Wike’s focus on infrastructure development in Abuja, Kingibe argued that his projects fail to meet the practical needs of ordinary residents.
Speaking during an interview on Political Paradigm, a Channels Television programme aired on Tuesday, the senator criticised Wike’s approach, describing him as disconnected from the everyday challenges faced by FCT residents.
“To be an effective FCT Minister, infrastructure alone is not enough,” she said, stressing the importance of engaging with the people to address core socio-economic issues.
“If you ask any FCT resident who has been the most impactful minister, they’ll say El-Rufai. He didn’t just build roads; he listened to the people and responded to their needs,” Kingibe added.
She recalled how El-Rufai addressed pressing community issues directly, contrasting that with Wike’s perceived detachment.
Kingibe concluded by emphasising that effective leadership in the FCT requires a people-centered approach, not just physical development.
