Football star Gareth Bale reportedly makes £40m bid to purchase Cardiff City.

A consortium headed by Welsh football icon Gareth Bale has reportedly made a £40 million offer to purchase Cardiff City.

The former Real Madrid star had previously shown interest in acquiring a football club, with links to a possible takeover of Plymouth Argyle—though those talks did not come to fruition.

Cardiff’s current owner, Vincent Tan, has made it known he is open to selling the club and is reportedly receptive to Bale’s proposal.

According to The Times, the bid involves backing from American investors, with Bale serving as the public face of the group.

Bale, 35, officially addressed his interest during the European premiere of F1: The Movie in London in late June. The five-time Champions League winner and 111-cap Welsh international retired from professional football two years ago.

"We are interested in getting Cardiff," Bale said. "It's my home club, where I grew up. My uncle, Chris Pike, also played for them. Being part of an ownership group would be a dream come true."

Bale expressed a strong emotional connection to the club, adding: "It’s a club close to my heart. I would love to be part of its growth and help bring Cardiff to the Premier League, where it belongs. The Welsh and Cardiff fans are incredible—it would be amazing to achieve something together."

He concluded by confirming ongoing talks: "We are trying to engage with Cardiff, and more news will emerge in the future. Hopefully, we can make something happen."
