Operatives of the Kwara State Police, in collaboration with the Ilorin South Local Government security team, have apprehended a three-man gang of suspected kidnappers who had been posing as commercial motorcyclists to carry out their crimes.
The suspects, known for terrorizing residents and commuters in the area, were arrested in the early hours of Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Abelu, along the Idofian Road axis.
Acting on credible intelligence, the local government’s security task force swiftly mobilized and raided the hideout, successfully arresting the suspects without incident.
During the operation, the suspects were found with a bicycle, which they allegedly used to disguise themselves as harmless commercial cyclists (Okada riders), allowing them to monitor targets and carry out kidnappings without raising suspicion.
Executive Chairman of Ilorin South Local Government Council, Hon. Nuhu Majeed Podo, praised the swift action and courage of the security team. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhancing local security and protecting residents.
“This breakthrough is the result of our renewed support for grassroots security and our emphasis on community vigilance,” Hon. Podo said. “We will not rest until Ilorin South is completely rid of criminal elements.”
The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further interrogation as investigators work to uncover the full extent of their operations and any possible accomplices.
The Council has urged residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activity, assuring that security efforts will continue across all zones of Ilorin South
