Michael Jackson’s Used Sock Sells for Over $8,000 at French Auction

A single rhinestone-covered sock once worn by pop icon Michael Jackson has been sold for over $8,000 at an auction in France.

The glittery white athletic sock, worn by Jackson during his HIStory World Tour in July 1997, was discovered by a technician near the singer’s dressing room after a concert in the southern city of NĂ®mes, according to auctioneer Aurore Illy.

Described as a unique and “cult” item among Jackson memorabilia, the sock had an estimated value of between €3,000 and €4,000 ($3,400–$4,500), but ultimately sold for €7,688 (approximately $8,822) at the NĂ®mes auction house.

Photos shared online show the sock bearing visible stains, and the rhinestones slightly yellowed with age — signs of its decades-old history. Jackson famously wore similar glittery socks while performing his iconic hit Billie Jean.

This isn't the first time Jackson’s memorabilia has fetched high prices. In 2009, a glittery glove he wore during his legendary first moonwalk in 1983 sold for $350,000. In 2023, a hat he wore just before that performance was auctioned in Paris for over $80,000.

Michael Jackson passed away in 2009 at the age of 50 from a fatal overdose.
