A coalition of youth groups representing over 1,000 All Progressives Congress (APC) support organizations from Nigeria’s North Central region has announced plans to send a 100-member delegation to Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Their aim is to persuade him to endorse Senator Mohammed Sani Musa for the position of APC National Chairman.
This decision was reached during an urgent meeting held in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, where youth leaders gathered to deliberate on the political future of the North Central geopolitical zone and the necessity of strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a communiqué released at the conclusion of the meeting and signed by Dan Okwa, convener of the North Central APC Youth Vanguard, the groups reiterated their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid. They emphasized that achieving this goal requires strong, pragmatic, and politically savvy party leadership.
“We believe the North Central region must not only be heard but also have a visible presence at the center of power. As we prepare for 2027, it is crucial that we reorganize our internal political framework and present one of our most credible and experienced leaders to head the APC,” the group stated.
The coalition highlighted that Senator Sani Musa, who represents Niger East in the National Assembly and chairs the Senate Committee on Finance, has consistently demonstrated loyalty, vision, and grassroots insight essential for stabilizing and repositioning the ruling party for electoral victory.
“He is a leader who understands the inner workings of the APC, embraces its vision, and has shown unwavering commitment to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” Okwa added.
“This is why we are dispatching a 100-man delegation to meet with Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio within the week, to present our case and seek his support for this crucial initiative.”
While acknowledging that other prominent North Central aspirants, including former Nasarawa Governor Senator Tanko Al-Makura, have also expressed interest in the party’s leadership, the coalition emphasized that Sani Musa represents a generational bridge, combining experience with a progressive outlook.
“We respect all candidates, especially Senator Al-Makura, who is a revered elder and party builder. However, at this pivotal moment in our nation’s journey, the APC requires a younger, dynamic, and unifying figure capable of rallying the party base—particularly the youth. That person is Senator Sani Musa,” the communiqué affirmed.
The youth groups further called on party elders and political stakeholders from the North Central region to encourage Senator Sani Musa to officially declare his candidacy for the national chairmanship and lead efforts to strengthen the region’s influence in national politics.
Okwa noted that the delegation would present a comprehensive petition to Akpabio, including resolutions from the youth summit and an overview of the strategic role the North Central zone has played in sustaining the APC since its founding.
“From extensive voter mobilization to defending the party during challenging times, the North Central region has always stood firmly behind the APC. We believe the time has come for the party to reward loyalty and capability,” he said.
The youth coalition pledged to ramp up mobilization efforts across the North Central states and the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the APC National Convention. They reiterated that their campaign aims not only at regional inclusion but also at reinforcing party discipline, restoring trust, and preparing the APC for future triumphs.
“We will engage key leaders across all zones, not just in the North Central. This is about the APC’s future, and we believe Senator Sani Musa is the leader to guide us into that future,” Okwa concluded.
The delegation is scheduled to meet with Senate President Akpabio later this week in Abuja.
