Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has opened up about the breakdown of his transfer from Bayer Leverkusen to Al Nassr.
Boniface had reportedly agreed to personal terms with the Saudi Pro League club, which would have seen him play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 23-year-old was also expected to earn around €45 million over the course of a proposed three-year contract.
Although the Nigerian international passed his medical examination and Bayer Leverkusen reached an agreement with Al Nassr, the Saudi club ultimately chose to sign Jhon Duran from Aston Villa instead.
“I was ready to go. I had packed my bags. I live in Cologne, and we even drove to Frankfurt,” Boniface revealed during an appearance on The Culture League podcast.
“The money was substantial, to be honest. Most of my designer clothes and shoes, I had already given them away to my friends back home.
“The flight was booked. I was in my hotel room praying for the deal to go through, but it fell through at the last minute.”
