Former NFL star and television analyst Shannon Sharpe has reportedly been let go by ESPN less than two weeks after settling a $50 million civil lawsuit filed by his former girlfriend, according to The Athletic.
Sharpe had been absent from ESPN programming since April, with initial reports suggesting he planned to return by the start of football season.
The lawsuit, filed in Clark County, Nevada, included allegations of assault, sexual misconduct, and emotional distress. The plaintiff claimed the incidents took place at her Las Vegas residence during the course of their relationship.
Sharpe publicly denied the allegations when the suit was first filed, describing the claims as false and labeling the lawsuit a "shakedown." He maintained that the relationship was entirely consensual and occurred between 2024 and 2025.
In a separate incident last year, Sharpe made headlines when audio of a private moment was unintentionally broadcast during an Instagram livestream.
A Hall of Fame tight end, Sharpe spent 14 seasons in the NFL—12 of them with the Denver Broncos—winning two Super Bowls and earning a reputation as one of the league’s all-time greats. Since retiring in 2003, he has built a high-profile media career and become one of sports television’s most recognizable voices.
