Super Falcons to Face Hosts Morocco in Final After Dramatic Win Over South Africa WAFCON 2024

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will take on host nation Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), following a thrilling 2–1 semi-final victory over arch-rivals South Africa.

Goals from Rasheedat Ajibade and Michelle Alozie kept Nigeria’s bid for a record-extending 10th continental title alive.

Ajibade opened the scoring just before halftime, converting a penalty after South Africa’s Bambanani Mbane handled the ball inside the box.

The reigning champions responded in the 60th minute when Hildah Magaia was fouled by Osinachi Ohale, earning a penalty which they successfully converted.

With the match heading toward extra time, Michelle Alozie fired home a stunning long-range strike deep into stoppage time, securing a dramatic win for the Falcons.

In the other semi-final, Morocco edged Ghana 4–2 on penalties at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat on Tuesday night.

The Atlas Lionesses and Ghana’s Black Queens were locked at 1–1 after 120 minutes, with Stella Nyamekye scoring for Ghana and Sakina Ouzraoui equalizing for the hosts.

Morocco clinched victory in the shootout as Ghana failed to convert two of their spot-kicks, booking their place in the final against Nigeria.
