Actor and singer Tyrese Gibson is facing potential jail time after his ex-wife, Samantha Gibson, accused him of willfully refusing to pay nearly $500,000 in legal fees related to their divorce.
In court documents filed on Friday, July 25, Samantha claims Tyrese has ignored a court order requiring him to pay $399,512 in attorney fees — a figure that has now ballooned to $492,651 with interest. She alleges his failure to pay is intentional, calling it a “blatant disregard” for the court’s ruling.
“Mr. Gibson has the means to comply with the court order but is choosing not to,” Samantha stated in her filing.
According to Billboard, Samantha is now asking the court to hold the Fast & Furious star in criminal contempt and sentence him to 20 days in jail for non-payment.
The former couple, who split in 2020 and finalized their divorce in 2023, were subject to a legal ruling that ordered Tyrese to pay substantial attorney fees — $217,731 to The Gleklen Law Firm and $181,421 to Bloom Lines Alexander.
The situation has continued to escalate. In 2023, Tyrese was briefly detained for failing to meet child support obligations, and one of the law firms later filed a lien against his Atlanta property over the unpaid fees.
Samantha’s legal team says the latest court action is aimed at compelling Tyrese to fulfill his financial obligations and bring an end to the prolonged legal dispute.
