Former Italy international Paolo Di Canio has questioned Atalanta’s €50 million asking price for Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman, who is set on a move to Inter Milan.
The Nigerian international has already agreed personal terms with Inter and is eager to join the San Siro side.
After Inter’s initial €40 million bid was rejected, the club returned with an improved offer of €42 million plus €3 million in performance-related bonuses. However, Atalanta deemed the proposal insufficient, insisting on the full €50 million, including potential bonuses.
Speaking to Corriere Della Sera, Di Canio argued that Atalanta’s valuation was excessive.
“In the Premier League, many don’t even really know who Lookman is,” he said. “Asking €50 million for him is over the top. But Atalanta are just doing their job.”
Di Canio also criticised Lookman’s conduct, urging professionalism. “The player, on the other hand, is behaving badly: you still have to train with your team even if you want to leave. Show integrity and be professional. The Percassi family have done very well so far not to give in to his show of force.”
