Niger State Governor Orders Shutdown of Badeggi FM Over Alleged Incitement

Governor Umar Bago of Niger State has ordered the immediate closure of Badeggi FM, a privately owned radio station based in Minna, citing allegations of incitement and unethical broadcasting.

The directive was issued on Friday, August 1, during an All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House in Minna. According to a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the station was accused of consistently airing content deemed to incite public unrest and opposition against the state government.

The governor also called for the revocation of Badeggi FM’s operating license, accusing its owner of using the platform to encourage hostility towards the government.

He directed the Commissioner for Homeland Security and the Commissioner of Police to enforce the closure and investigate the station's owner, Shuaibu Badeggi, for allegedly promoting violence through the station.

Badeggi FM 90.1, established in 2020, has operated as a private broadcaster in the state capital, Minna.
