Nollywood has lost one of its own, as actress Omotola Odunsi, widely known as Motola the Actor, has passed away.
As of the time of this report, the cause of her death has not been made public.
The sad news was confirmed by fellow actor Akinola ‘Segbowe’ Akano, who shared a touching tribute on Instagram on Thursday, July 31, 2025. He posted screenshots of their last chat and photos of the late actress, revealing that she had previously assured him she was feeling better.
“Motola! It’s strange. I tried checking on you in the early hours of that morning. You said you were FINE & BACK! This is a rude shock, Omotola! Journey well, sister. God be with your family,” he wrote.
Veteran actor Odunlade Adekola, under whose guidance Odunsi trained, also confirmed the news with a brief but emotional post: “Jesus Christ. RIP Omotola.”
Before fully embracing acting in 2019, Omotola worked as a credit officer at a state-owned bank. She went on to become a familiar face in Yoruba-language films, appearing in notable productions such as Ajanaku, Darkness, Ogo Oluwa, Dagogo, Ariran, Doctor Adunni, Folagbade, President Kuti, Amonata, Officer Adaeze, Ifedayo, Ayanmo Ire, and Lisabi: The Uprising.
Her passing marks a significant loss to the Nigerian film industry and her many fans.
