President Bola Tinubu will on Thursday, August 14, embark on a two-nation tour to Japan and Brazil, with a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
According to Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the President’s first destination will be Yokohama, Japan, where he will participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) from August 20 to 22.
Held under the theme “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa”, TICAD9 will focus on accelerating Africa’s economic transformation, improving the business climate through private investment and innovation, and building a resilient, sustainable society rooted in human security, peace, and stability.
During his time in Japan, President Tinubu will attend plenary sessions, hold bilateral talks, and engage with chief executives of Japanese companies investing in Nigeria.
Established in 1993 by the Japanese government, and co-hosted by the United Nations, UNDP, African Union Commission, and the World Bank, TICAD is a triennial forum alternating between Japan and Africa. The last edition was held in Tunisia in 2022.
Following the Japan engagement, the President will travel to BrasÃlia for a state visit from Sunday, August 24, to Monday, August 25, at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
In Brazil, he will hold bilateral discussions with his host and take part in a business forum with Brazilian investors. His delegation, which includes key ministers and senior officials, will explore avenues to boost cooperation and formalise agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Brazilian government.
