UK Conservative Leader Kemi Badenoch Proposes Housing Asylum Seekers in Camps Instead of Hotels

UK Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch has suggested that asylum seekers should be accommodated in camps rather than hotels, citing safety concerns in local communities.

Speaking during a visit to Epping, Essex, on Monday, August 11, Badenoch said:

“Is it possible for us to set up camps and police that, rather than bringing all of this hassle into communities?”

Her remarks come amid ongoing protests at the Bell Hotel, which currently houses migrants, after an asylum seeker was charged with allegedly attempting to kiss a 14-year-old girl.

Badenoch argued that some residents feel unsafe, claiming many have reported harassment from individuals staying in migrant hotels. She emphasised the need for community involvement in finding solutions, adding:

“Not everyone here is a genuine asylum seeker. People are arriving in our country illegally… we need to make sure they are deported immediately and deter others from coming through that pathway.”

She also stressed that housing large numbers of asylum seekers in hotels unfairly burdens local communities and strains public resources.
