A 28-year-old Brazilian blogger tragically lost her life after being struck by a stray bullet during a gang-related shootout in Rio de Janeiro.
Barbara Elisa Yabeta Borges, a bank employee and travel content creator, was riding in the back seat of a car on October 31 when gunfire erupted near the Fundão footbridge. According to the driver, shots rang out as they passed through the area, and Barbara was hit in the head.
She was immediately taken to Hospital Geral de Bonsucesso, but doctors were unable to save her.
Police reported that the incident occurred amid an exchange of gunfire between rival criminal groups. Officers from the 22nd Battalion responded and recovered a rifle, magazines, and ammunition at the scene.
Just hours before her death, Barbara had shared a reflective post on Instagram about the importance of affection and cherishing loved ones, reminding her followers that “people cannot be replaced.”
Recently promoted at the bank where she worked in Rio’s South Zone, Barbara frequently posted photos of her outdoor runs, hiking adventures, and travels to her 18,000 followers.
