Meghan Markle set for first return to acting after 8-year hiatus

Meghan Markle is reportedly preparing to return to acting for the first time in eight years.

According to Variety, the Duchess of Sussex will make a cameo appearance as herself in the Amazon MGM Studios film Close Personal Friends, which features Lily Collins, Brie Larson, Jack Quaid, and Henry Golding.

The Sun cited an unnamed source who described the move as a “massive moment” for Markle and a sign that she’s ready to reconnect with her passion for acting.

“She’s received plenty of offers, but this one felt right,” the source said. “It’s Meghan’s way of gently stepping back into the industry to see how she feels on set again. Everyone involved is extremely excited and keeping her role tightly under wraps. Prince Harry is fully supportive and just wants her to do what makes her happy.”

People also reported that Markle has already filmed her scenes. “She has a small role. She appeared relaxed and happy. She introduced herself to everyone and was very kind and down-to-earth,” a source told the outlet.

This marks Markle’s first acting project since leaving Suits in 2017, where she portrayed paralegal Rachel Zane from the show’s debut through Season 7. She exited the series following her engagement to Prince Harry.

After stepping back as senior working royals, Meghan and Harry relocated to Montecito, purchasing a large estate in 2020 for more privacy, space, and proximity to their U.S. base.
