Actress and filmmaker Regina Daniels has revealed that her mother, Rita Daniels, cautioned her against marrying Senator Ned Nwoko, but she ignored the warning because she was in love.
In a video posted on Instagram on Wednesday, Regina appealed to Nigerians to stop attacking her mother amid her ongoing marital issues.
The actress clarified that her marriage was not motivated by greed, explaining that her family initially advised her against the union.
“The main purpose of this video is to beg you all to stop insulting my mom,” she said. “I feel like I owe you this explanation because I don’t understand why everyone is hurting over my life. But I don’t think it comes from a bad place.
“Please, stop insulting my mom. She is the best thing that has ever happened to me—my god on earth. She has been strong for seven years. My mom held everything together. She tried. You all insulted her, but she really tried. It’s me. I’m the one with the coconut head. I’m ashamed to say this, but I fell in love. I really did. Everyone said no—my mom included.”
She also dismissed claims that she married out of financial desperation.
“Stop saying I got married out of greed. No. We were not broke. And what money can a man give a mother to hand over her child—the same child who practically supported the family and trained her siblings?”
Regina added that the intense pressure surrounding her marriage once drove her to contemplate suicide. Despite her struggles, she said she remains determined to fight for the well-being of her children.
