Former Liverpool and England captain Jordan Henderson has parted ways with Ajax after his contract was terminated a year early.  The 35-year-old midfielder, who joined the Dutch club in January 2024, made over 50 appearances and captained the team.  Despite his contributions, Ajax narrowly missed the Dutch league title last season, and Henderson's contract, initially set to run until June 2026, has been mutually dissolved.

Henderson expressed gratitude towards Ajax, acknowledging the honor of playing for and captaining the club while expressing regret at their lack of success.  His departure comes amidst a period of personal grief following the tragic death of his former Liverpool teammate, Diogo Jota, and Jota's brother, Andre Silva, in a recent car accident.  Henderson plans to offer a more comprehensive thank you to Ajax at a later date.

Before his time in the Netherlands, Henderson enjoyed a highly decorated 12-year career at Liverpool, winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and other major trophies.  After Liverpool, a short spell with Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League preceded his move to Ajax.  Now a free agent, Henderson is reportedly attracting interest from clubs across Europe and England.
