Fayose predicts PDP will finish fourth in the 2027 general election

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has forecasted a significant weakening of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) influence ahead of the 2027 general elections, suggesting the party may only secure fourth place.

In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on July 25, Fayose linked this anticipated decline to ongoing internal divisions and the exclusion of key members within the party.

He stated, “I am telling you now, PDP will come fourth in the elections. In many states, the party is already compromised.” He further noted the systematic sidelining of prominent leaders, referencing his own experience as part of the faction known as the G5.

Fayose also criticized the party leadership for marginalizing him, which influenced his absence from the recent PDP National Executive Committee meeting, despite being invited.

Describing the PDP as a “carcass,” he highlighted the departure of major figures—including the presidential and vice-presidential candidates, senators, and governors—as evidence of its crumbling structure.

Although he reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP for now, Fayose hinted at the possibility of joining other parties such as the APC, ADC, or Labour Party in the future.

He warned that unless the PDP undertakes serious reconciliation and structural reforms, it risks further erosion of its political relevance.
