A man has killed himself and his girlfriend is in critical condition following a severe domestic altercation between the couple at their rented home in Guwahati, India.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Wednesday, July 9.

According to police reports, the couple had been in a live-in relationship for the past year, but their conflicts had been escalating recently.

The deceased has been identified as Navjyoti Talukdar, who was discovered dead in one of the rooms. His partner, Sushmita Das, sustained critical injuries and was transported to Hayat Hospital for medical care.

Sources indicate that frequent arguments and misunderstandings had become a regular part of their relationship.

Police stated that Navjyoti had locked Sushmita in one of the rooms before taking his own life.

Sushmita was able to contact the police before attempting to harm herself by cutting her wrist. A police official from Guwahati reported, “The man was found hanging. The woman made an emergency call, and we arrived at the scene promptly. She was taken to the hospital. Sushmita Das is employed with a news channel, and we have initiated an investigation.”
