The Katsina State Government has approved ₦703 million for the reconstruction of perimeter fencing and installation of security barricades at 14 general hospitals located in high-risk areas across the state.
The approval was granted during the State Executive Council meeting held Thursday in Katsina. Speaking to reporters afterward, Commissioner for Works, Housing, and Transport, Dr. Sani Magaji-Ingawa, said the initiative is aimed at strengthening safety in frontline healthcare facilities.
“This is part of our administration’s broader plan to secure health institutions in volatile zones and protect both staff and patients,” Magaji-Ingawa stated.
The hospitals targeted for the upgrades are located in the following local government areas: Kankara, Malumfashi, Faskari, Jibia, Funtua, Kafur, Dandume, Musawa, Batsari, Dutsin-Ma, Kurfi, Danmusa, Katsina metropolis, and Amadi Rimi.
In a related development, the council also approved:
₦1.3 billion for the upgrade of the Comprehensive Health Centre in Mai’adua LGA into a fully equipped general hospital.
₦18.5 billion for the construction of the Rafin Iya–Tashar Bawa–Sabuwa road, a vital transport corridor expected to improve security logistics and boost agricultural and commercial activities in the region.
“This road will facilitate the movement of goods, enhance access to farms, and strengthen security operations along the corridor,” Magaji-Ingawa added.
Additionally, Commissioner for Information and Culture, Dr. Bala Salisu-Zango, announced the approval of ₦747.3 million for the establishment of a Security Consultative Centre in the state capital.
“This center is a strategic part of our security reform efforts,” Salisu-Zango noted. “Once completed, it will be handed over to the Federal Government for use as a central hub for inter-agency security coordination in Katsina.”
The multi-pronged investments reflect the state government’s renewed focus on improving public safety and infrastructure in response to growing security challenges.
