"Kebbi Governor’s aide dismisses Malami’s defection to ADC as politically insignificant."
The Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, Ahmed Idris, has downplayed the political impact of former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), following his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Idris described the move as inconsequential to both the state government and the people of Kebbi.
Speaking in Birnin Kebbi, Idris said Malami’s departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC) poses no threat to Governor Nasir Idris’ widespread popularity and grassroots support.
“The defection of the former Attorney General is of no concern to the people or government of Kebbi State. In fact, we welcome his exit, as he contributed nothing of value to this administration,” he stated.
Idris emphasized the governor’s strong connection with the people, noting that many residents are already urging him to seek re-election beyond two terms or pursue higher national office.
“Our governor is firmly rooted in the hearts of the people. His performance and achievements speak volumes,” he added.
Taking a swipe at Malami’s political relevance, Idris asserted that the former minister lacks electoral influence in the state.
“Malami holds no political credibility here. He has never won his polling unit, let alone garnered support across Kebbi. His defection carries no weight—we are unbothered, as he brings no influence or value.”
Idris further argued that many recent defections from major political parties are driven by self-interest rather than genuine commitment to public service.
