Man Sets Ex-Wife and Children on Fire After She Rejects His S3xual Advances

A Zimbabwean woman and her two young children narrowly escaped death after their home was allegedly set ablaze by her ex-husband in a suspected revenge attack following her refusal of his sexual advances.

The horrifying incident occurred in the early morning hours while 29-year-old Dorcas Mutengwa and her children, aged three and seven, were asleep. Mutengwa awoke to the smell of gasoline and flames consuming her bedroom.

Despite suffering serious burns, she managed to save both children from the blaze. Her seven-year-old son sustained burns to his hands and nose, while her toddler daughter suffered an injury to her right ear.

Authorities identified the suspect as Mutengwa’s estranged husband, Paul Zuze. According to court records, Zuze had a documented history of abuse and had previously been arrested in November for violating a protection order after allegedly threatening Mutengwa with a kitchen knife when she refused his sexual demands.

Witnesses reported seeing a man flee the scene in a vehicle matching Zuze’s. Fire investigators later confirmed that gasoline had been poured on the roof of the house before it was set alight, resulting in a fire that destroyed nearly all the family’s possessions, including clothes, furniture, and household items.

Neighbors rushed to help extinguish the fire and provided urgent care to the injured family. The incident has sparked renewed calls for stronger measures to protect survivors of domestic violence and stricter enforcement of court protection orders.

Community leaders condemned the attack and urged the government to improve support services for victims of abuse. Authorities are continuing their investigation and efforts to locate and arrest the suspect.
