Nigerian Army Arrests 183 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Delta State Raid

 


The Headquarters of the 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 1 Joint Task Force (South South), Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), has arrested 183 suspected internet fraudsters in a raid on a suspected "Yahoo boys" training centre in Warri, Delta State.

In a statement released by Captain Iliyasu Bawa Rijau, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 63 Brigade, Asaba, the operation was conducted on July 19, 2025, following credible intelligence on the activities of the suspects.

According to the statement, all the suspects—males aged between 16 and 29—were apprehended in various apartments within the area that were allegedly being used as an internet fraud training hub.

Items recovered from the scene include 274 assorted laptops, 87 different mobile phones, 9 laptop chargers, 1 table phone, and 2 WiFi devices.

"The suspects and recovered items are currently undergoing preliminary investigation and further necessary actions will be taken," the statement added. "The Nigerian Army remains committed to eradicating cybercrime and all forms of criminality from our society."

Commander of the 63 Brigade/Sector 1 Joint Task Force, OPDS, Brigadier General M.A. Shonibare, praised the troops for their professionalism and precision during the operation. He also called on the public to continue supporting the military’s efforts to ensure peace and security in the region.
