Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has revealed he found it impossible to reject a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr during the January transfer window.
The forward came close to sealing a move to Al Nassr, but the club ultimately chose to sign Jhon Duran from Aston Villa instead.
Boniface was reportedly offered a staggering €15 million per year by the Saudi outfit — a significant jump from the €2 million he currently earns at Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.
“I’ve had a lot of injuries, and when you’re offered that kind of money — it was hard to say no,” Boniface shared on The Culture League podcast.
“I accepted the offer because the club was also going to receive €70 million, and they needed the funds. In football, it’s not just about the player — the club matters too.
“I was ready. I had packed my bags, given away my designer clothes and shoes to friends, and the plane was waiting.
“But in the end, the deal fell through at the last minute.”
