Romano breaks silence on reports linking Osimhen to Manchester United.
Football transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano has explained why Manchester United is not expected to compete with Galatasaray for Victor Osimhen.
He stated that the Nigerian striker is unlikely to join the Premier League club due to financial factors, despite ongoing rumors linking him to a move to the Premier League.
Osimhen is expected to stay at Galatasaray, where he spent last season on loan, even though his name has been associated with several top European clubs during the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have frequently been mentioned as a possible destination for the Nigerian international. However, not all clubs can afford the former Lille striker at this time, including Premier League giants, given their current wage structure.
Osimhen currently earns a net salary of €12 million per season at Napoli, which Galatasaray is willing to raise to €16 million net annually. This would make him one of the highest-paid players in Europe once he signs with the Turkish giants in the coming days.
“Many of you are asking if Manchester United can attempt to hijack this deal,” Romano mentioned on his YouTube channel on Thursday night.
“I am not aware of Manchester United pursuing this option, not only because of the €75 million transfer fee but also due to the salary considerations.
“The key issue for Premier League clubs last summer and this summer has always revolved around salary. Osimhen is on a €12 million net salary at Napoli, and Galatasaray is prepared to offer €16 million net per season.
“This is a significant difference compared to the wage structure at Manchester United, which is why they have not made a move at this time,” he concluded.
