"Super Eagles fall to 44th in latest FIFA World Rankings."
Nigeria's Super Eagles have dropped one spot to 44th in the latest FIFA world rankings, now ranked fifth in Africa. Despite winning the 2025 Unity Cup in May and drawing with Russia in June, these strong results weren't enough to improve their global standing. Morocco leads Africa at 12th globally, followed by Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria.
Upcoming World Cup qualifiers see the Super Eagles facing Rwanda (127th) and South Africa (56th). The team holds the record as Africa's highest-ranked team, achieving 5th place in April 1994, the year of their World Cup debut.
Elsewhere in the rankings, Croatia re-entered the top 10, while Portugal and the Netherlands swapped places. The top five remain unchanged: Argentina, Spain, France, England, and Brazil. The next FIFA rankings will be released on September 18, 2025.
