On Thursday, Saudi club Al-Hilal secured the signing of AC Milan’s French full-back, Theo Hernandez, on a three-year contract.

The 27-year-old defender departs the Serie A side in a deal reported by Italian media to be worth €25 million ($29.2 million).

Hernandez has earned 38 caps for France, scoring twice, and featured in the 2022 World Cup, including the final loss to Argentina on penalties in Qatar.

Joining the Saudi Pro League just a year ahead of the next World Cup might pose a risk to his chances of national team selection by coach Didier Deschamps.

However, he can find hope in the example of N’Golo Kanté, who was chosen for Euro 2024 despite playing for another Saudi club, Al-Ittihad.

Theo Hernandez is also the younger brother of Paris Saint-Germain and France defender Lucas Hernandez.
