"Edo Guber Dispute: PDP’s Ighodalo Claims Supreme Court Betrayed Him Following Judgment."
Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the September 2024 governorship election in Edo, has expressed a profound sense of betrayal following the Supreme Court's ruling against his candidacy.
In his response to the apex court's verdict on Thursday, Ighodalo acknowledged the finality of the judgment but stated, “I do not and cannot pretend that what was delivered amounts to justice.” He made these remarks in a statement he personally signed in Abuja shortly after the court's decision regarding the election dispute.
Ighodalo described the election as more than just a contest, labeling it a “robbery” that was “coordinated, deliberate, and now, tragically validated by the highest court in the land.”
He emphasized, “While I will not obstruct any judicial pronouncement, no matter how flawed, I must never fear to speak truth to power.”
Expressing solidarity with his supporters, he said, “Like you, I feel a deep sense of betrayal—not just by those who rigged the process, but by the very institutions we trusted to safeguard our democracy.”
He continued, “You came out in hope. You voted for competence, for progress, for prosperity, and now we are told that your voice does not matter. That your freely given mandate can be trampled without consequence.”
“I feel your pain. I share your anger. And I will never forget your courage,” he concluded.
