Tinubu Deserves a Second Term Just Like Buhari – Presidency says

The Presidency has stated that President Bola Tinubu is entitled to seek a second term in office, just like his predecessor, the late Muhammadu Buhari.

This position was made known by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, during an interview on Trust Radio on Wednesday.

Onanuga urged northern politicians to exercise patience and allow the South to complete its turn at the helm of national leadership, noting that the South also waited through Buhari’s full eight-year tenure.

He dismissed recent claims by the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) alleging northern marginalisation, describing them as subtle attempts to undermine the Tinubu administration.

“This President is a Nigerian. He deserves the same opportunity for two terms that Buhari had. We should not sacrifice national unity for personal ambition,” Onanuga said.

Addressing accusations that federal appointments disproportionately favour the Southwest, Onanuga challenged critics to present concrete data rather than relying on vague allegations.

He also rejected claims that the North is being neglected in terms of infrastructure development, noting that President Tinubu inherited numerous abandoned projects from previous administrations.

To support his argument of balanced representation, Onanuga highlighted that key national security positions are currently occupied by northerners, and the region’s security situation has seen improvement.

“You need to get your facts straight. This is political mischief aimed at weakening the President. Bad roads exist across Nigeria, not just in the North,” he said.

“The National Security Adviser, Chief of Defence Staff, and both Defence Ministers are Northerners. Places like Birnin Gwari and Igabi in Kaduna are now safer. I recently drove from Kaduna to Abuja without any security issues—a journey that used to be considered dangerous,” he added.
