US President Donald Trump to attend FIFA Club World Cup final at MetLife Stadium
US President Donald Trump confirmed he will attend Sunday’s FIFA Club World Cup final, set to take place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The month-long tournament concludes with Premier League champions Chelsea facing the winner of Wednesday’s semifinal between French club Paris Saint-Germain and Spanish giant Real Madrid.
“I’ll be going to the game,” Trump told reporters when asked about his plans to attend the final.
Trump’s attendance was initially hinted at on Monday by DAZN’s on-air personality Emily Austin.
The announcement comes a day after FIFA revealed plans to open an office inside Trump Tower in Manhattan, where the Club World Cup trophy will be displayed ahead of Sunday’s final.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised the Trump administration’s strong support, saying, “We have received such big support from the government and from the President with the White House Task Force for the FIFA Club World Cup now and for the FIFA World Cup next year.”
Infantino highlighted the cooperation as the US, Canada, and Mexico prepare to jointly host the 2026 World Cup.
Since resuming office earlier this year, Trump has made several high-profile appearances at major sporting events, including becoming the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl, watching the Philadelphia Eagles defeat the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans.
Trump also played a key role in the NFL’s announcement that the 2007 draft would be held in Washington, D.C.
