Two teenage students of the Catholic Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary in Ivianokpodi, Agenebode, Etsako East LGA of Edo State, abducted by suspected kidnappers, have appeared in a viral video begging for financial assistance to secure their release.
The video, reportedly released by their abductors on social media, shows the seminarians holding human skulls as they plead with their parents and the public to help raise the ransom. They said the kidnappers had threatened to kill them if the undisclosed sum was not paid.
Recalls that on July 10, 2025, three seminarians were abducted from the school during an attack in which a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps officer attached to the institution was killed. One of the abducted teenagers has since been freed, while the remaining two have been held in captivity.
The case mirrors a similar incident in Auchi, Etsako West LGA, where three kidnap victims regained freedom on August 11 after paying ₦75 million, having also appealed for help through a viral video.
Confirming the authenticity of the latest video, the spokesperson of the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, Rev. Fr Peter Egielewa, said, “The video you see with the two teenagers holding human skulls is real. We are negotiating with the kidnappers, but they are asking for money we do not have. I think it’s out of frustration they did that video.”
Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has ordered the deployment of tactical teams to track the abductors and rescue the victims unharmed, vowing that those responsible will face the full weight of the law.
