Cleric Unveils Book to Preserve Edo Language

In a significant move to safeguard and promote the Edo language, Rev. Mrs. Imose Osar-Emokpae yesterday launched her much-anticipated book, Abidi Edo: An Easy Way to Speak, Write and Read Edo Language, at the headquarters of Macedonia Call Global Assembly, Anthony, Maryland, Lagos.

More than just a language guide, Abidi Edo is a heartfelt contribution to cultural preservation. Written in a clear, practical, and accessible style, the book simplifies grammar, pronunciation, and everyday expressions, making it easier for learners of all levels to speak, read, and write in Edo.

A respected minister, teacher, and cultural advocate, Osar-Emokpae said the work is both “a gift to the next generation” and a rallying call to all Edo sons and daughters not to let the language fade into obscurity.

“This is about restoring confidence,” she noted. “The Edo language is not lost yet, but it must be taught in ways that make it feel alive and relevant. When learning becomes enjoyable, people naturally embrace speaking it again, and with that, we preserve our cultural heritage.”

Celebrated as a timely resource for Edo people in Nigeria and the diaspora, Abidi Edo has been hailed as a practical tool for rekindling linguistic pride and strengthening cultural identity.
