Court Halts Ogun Government’s Planned Demolition of Gbenga Daniel’s Properties

An Ogun State High Court has granted an interim order restraining Governor Dapo Abiodun and state officials from demolishing or tampering with properties owned by former governor Gbenga Daniel, including his Sagamu GRA residence, Asoludero Court, and Conference Hotels Limited with its annex.

Justice O.S. Oloyede issued the ex parte order on Tuesday after hearing an application from Daniel and his wife, Yeye Olufunke Daniel, filed through their counsel, A.M. Kotoye (SAN). The judge ruled that immediate intervention was necessary to protect the applicants’ right to quiet possession pending the hearing of a motion on notice fixed for August 19.

The restraining order also prohibits any further trespass or disturbance on the disputed properties, which are covered by Certificates of Occupancy issued in 2005 and 2010.

Daniel had accused the governor of political vendetta, claiming contravention and quit notices—threatening demolition within three days—were pasted on his properties on August 8.

However, Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning, Tunji Odunlami, dismissed claims of targeting individuals, insisting the notices were part of a routine GRA land audit under the state’s urban renewal project, which will be applied across all government-owned GRAs.
