Okpebholo Replaces Suspended Aide Felix Isere with Kay Otono.

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Barrister Kashimu “Kay” Otono as the new Special Adviser on Oil and Gas, following the suspension of Felix Isere over allegations of unauthorized fundraising.

Isere was suspended after the state government accused him of soliciting funds without approval for a proposed Oil and Gas Summit. The government subsequently halted the event and ordered Isere to refund all monies collected from donors.

The appointment was confirmed in an official statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq., dated July 31, 2025.

“It is hereby announced for the information of the general public that the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of Barr. Kashimu Otono as Special Adviser (Oil and Gas) to the Governor,” the statement read.

The development has triggered mixed reactions across the state. Some stakeholders have praised the governor’s swift action, viewing it as a firm stance on transparency and accountability in public service. Others, however, have urged caution, calling for due process and demanding that Isere be given a fair hearing before any final decision is made.

Supporters of Otono have welcomed his appointment, expressing optimism that his leadership will bring renewed professionalism and integrity to the oil and gas sector in Edo State.

Governor Okpebholo’s administration has reiterated its commitment to good governance and a zero-tolerance policy toward misconduct in public office.
