Singer Fido Says Former Label Took 95% of His Advance, Stalled His Career

Afrobeats artist Fido has accused his former record label and management of withholding nearly all of his advance payment, a dispute he says derailed his music career.

In a recent radio interview, Fido alleged that out of a $20,000 advance, he received only about ₦1.5 million (just over $1,000), with the label keeping as much as 95% of the funds.

“I was transparent with them even when I was still with them, but they took all my advance… they gave me just ₦1.5 million out of $20,000,” he said, insisting he has proof to support the claim.

The host suggested that the matter could be resolved through legal intervention, noting that Fido’s contract had already been terminated. They also floated the idea of involving his current partners at Empire, along with industry figures like MK, to push forward ongoing projects.

Fido revealed that the behind-the-scenes dispute quietly slowed his career while fans speculated about his absence from the spotlight.

“People never knew what I was facing. They just thought, ‘Ah, this boy…’ But they didn’t know the battles behind the scenes,” he added.
