Super Falcons Players Yet to Receive Promised $100,000, Ajibade Reveals

Super Falcons captain and forward, Rasheedat Ajibade, has voiced frustration over the delay in receiving promised allowances and bonuses for the team.

Speaking on an upcoming episode of With Chude, hosted by popular media personality Chude Jideonwo, Ajibade revealed that neither the $100,000 reward nor other entitlements had been paid, despite repeated assurances from the authorities.

“We have not received our money. All the promises you hear back and forth, we have not received anything,” she said.

Ajibade explained that although the players were informed the funds had been allocated, nothing has reached them. “People are begging. We have not received it. When they pay it, you will see. Even our match bonuses… everything is still a work in progress,” she added.

The 24-year-old urged authorities to fulfill their promises, noting that the delay was putting a strain on the players.

Following the Super Falcons’ historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph in Morocco, President Bola Tinubu had in July 2024 announced a $100,000 cash reward for each player, along with additional bonuses, to recognize their achievement.

Ajibade also reflected on her early career, revealing that she played for FC Robo Queens in the Nigeria Women’s Football League for 10 years without a salary. She described that period as “a tough moment” in her life.

She recounted growing up in a crowded compound of nearly 100 people in Mushin, Lagos, where she often had to wash toilets and bathrooms to earn money.

Ajibade rose through the ranks of FC Robo Queens before moving to Avaldsnes IL in Norway at age 17. She later joined Atletico Madrid Femenino in 2021.
