UPDATE : Female Passenger Arraigned and Remanded for Assaulting Ibom Air Officials

Comfort Emmanson, the passenger involved in an assault on airline staff during an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos, has been charged in court and remanded in custody.

Tunde Moshood, special adviser on media and communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, confirmed that Emmanson is currently held at Kirikiri Correctional Facility.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Moshood highlighted the increasing enforcement actions at Nigerian airports due to a rise in unruly passenger behavior.

“Let this serve as a warning to the flying public: Miss Comfort Emmanson, the unruly passenger on the Uyo-Lagos Ibom Air flight, has been charged to court and is now cooling off in Kirikiri,” he stated.

Videos circulating online captured Emmanson aggressively attacking flight attendants and confronting airport security officials.

Ibom Air explained that the incident started just before takeoff in Uyo when Emmanson refused to comply with safety regulations requiring her to switch off her mobile phone.

After a fellow passenger beside her turned off the phone, Emmanson responded with a verbal outburst.

Upon arrival in Lagos, Emmanson confronted and physically assaulted the purser who had earlier asked her to turn off her phone.

The airline condemned her behavior as a serious threat to the safety of the crew, passengers, and aircraft.

As a result, Ibom Air has imposed a travel ban on Emmanson, barring her from flying on any of their aircraft in the future.
